If you’re looking for a quick and satisfying project, this simple cotton scrubby is the perfect make. It’s beginner-friendly, works up fast, and creates a textured round scrubby measuring approximately 3.5 inches across at its widest point. This pattern is written using US crochet terms and is designed in one size.
Materials You’ll Need
To make five scrubbies, you will need approximately 60–65 yards (about 30 grams) of 100% cotton DK yarn. Cotton works best for scrubbies because it’s durable, absorbent, and machine washable. Yarn brands such as Stylecraft Classique Cotton DK or Oxford Yarns Eco Cotton work beautifully, but any similar cotton DK yarn will do.
You’ll also need:
A 4 mm (G) crochet hook
A yarn needle for weaving in ends
Scissors
Stitches & Abbreviations Used
Throughout the pattern, the following abbreviations are used:
MR – Magic Ring
CH – Chain
SK – Skip
ST / STS – Stitch / Stitches
SLST – Slip Stitch
DC – Double Crochet
FPDC – Front Post Double Crochet
When you see instructions written between asterisks (* *), repeat the sequence between those symbols as directed.
Special Stitch: Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC)
To create a front post double crochet, yarn over and insert your hook from the front of your work, wrapping it around the post of the indicated stitch from right to left. Yarn over and complete the double crochet as you normally would. This stitch creates the raised texture that gives the scrubby its structure and dimension.

Pattern Instructions
Starting the Scrubby
Begin by making a magic ring (MR).
Round 1
Chain 3. Work 12 double crochet stitches into the magic ring. Once complete, join with a slip stitch to the first double crochet (not the beginning chain 3).
You should have 12 stitches in total.
Round 2
Chain 2. Work 1 double crochet into the same stitch. Next, create a front post double crochet around the chain 3 from the previous round and around the same stitch where you just placed your double crochet.
Continue around the circle as follows:
Work 1 double crochet in the next stitch, then make a front post double crochet around that same stitch. Repeat this sequence all the way around.
Join with a slip stitch to the first double crochet to close the round.
At the end of this round, you will have:
12 FPDC and 12 DC.
Round 3
Chain 2 and place 1 double crochet in the same stitch. Work 1 double crochet into the next stitch (this will be the first FPDC from the previous round). Then make a front post double crochet around that same stitch you just worked into.
Continue the pattern around:
Work 1 double crochet into each of the next 2 stitches (note that the second stitch in each pair will always be a FPDC from the previous round), then work a front post double crochet around the FPDC.
Repeat this sequence until you reach the end of the round. Join with a slip stitch to the first double crochet.
You should now have:
12 FPDC and 24 DC.
Round 4 (Petal Round)
Slip stitch over to the first FPDC from the previous round. Chain 1 and place a single crochet in that same stitch.
Skip the next 2 stitches (these are the 2 double crochets from the previous round). Work 7 double crochets into the next FPDC. This forms your first petal.
Continue around as follows:
Skip 2 stitches, single crochet in the next FPDC, skip 2 stitches, then work 7 double crochets into the next FPDC.
Repeat this pattern all the way around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.
At the end of this round, you will have:
6 single crochets and 6 petals made of 7 double crochets each.
Finishing
Fasten off your yarn and use a yarn needle to carefully weave in all ends.
Your textured cotton scrubby is now complete and ready to use. Make a few in different colors for a cheerful kitchen set or bundle them together as a thoughtful handmade gift.
