Granny Goes Large: The Ultimate Classic Granny Square Blanket Guide

Granny Goes Large is a beautifully simple, oversized take on the traditional granny square blanket, designed by Sandra Paul. This pattern is perfect for beginners while still providing a satisfying project for experienced crocheters. With a full round-by-round colour breakdown, UK and US terminology included, and a decorative border, this pattern makes it easy to create a large, cozy blanket.

Project Overview

The blanket is a single, continuously expanding granny square, with colour changes at the end of every round for a striking striped effect.

  • Skill Level: Beginner

  • Finished Size: 160cm (64”) square

  • Gauge: 10cm (4”) square after 5 rounds

  • Rounds: 68 rounds + border

If you wish to adjust the size, simply increase or decrease the number of rounds. Ensure you finish on an even-numbered round so the border aligns correctly.
