Chain 4, join
Round 1: Work 12 HDC through the chain, do not join, we will use a continual round.
Round 2: Work a SC for the first stitch for a gradual step, HDC in the same stitch. Work 2 HDC in each stitch around, attach a yarn marker so you know where the first stitch is. (24 Half Double Crochet)
Round 3: Work 1 HDC in each stitch around (24 Half Double Crochet)
Round 4: *Work 2 HDC in next stitch, Work 1 HDC in next, continue around from *. (36 Half Double Crochet)
Round 5: Work 1 HDC in each stitch around (36 Half Double Crochet)
Round 6: *Work 1 HDC in ea of the next 2 stitches, Work 2 HDC in next, continue around from *. (48 Half Double Crochet)
Round 7: Work 1 HDC in each stitch around (48 Half Double Crochet)
Round 8: *Work 1 HDC in ea of the next 3 stitches, Work 2 HDC in next, continue around from *. (60 Half Double Crochet)
Round 9: Work 1 HDC in each stitch around (60 Half Double Crochet)
You can stop increasing here and continue on with the length for a Youth Size cap approximately 18-22 inches around.
Continue from round 9 for an adult size cap
Round 10: *Work 1 HDC in ea of the next 4 stitches, Work 2 HDC in next, continue around from *. (72 Half Double Crochet)
Continue for the length of your cap.
Eye – Make 2 – Black Yarn
Chain 8, work 7 HDC through each chain, turn.
Row 2: Skip 1 stitch, work 2 DC, 2 TC in the next stitch. In the next stitch, work 2 TC, 2 DC. Skip 2 stitches, work a slip stitch in the last stitch. Cut of extra yarn for sewing to the cap.
Eye Center – Make 2 – Red Yarn
Chain 3, join. Work 6 SC through the loop, join. Cut an extra amount of yarn for sewing on to the eye.
There are different types of placement for the eyes. Try out different locations.
Mouth
Work the embroidery chain or you can make a chain of 15-20 and sew to the cap. Work vertical spikes across the mouth for a scarier and creepier effect.
Sew everything in place. Knot, secure and sew in all the tails.
